A near future adventure: The forum is generally devoted directly to topics related to umPODS. However, the concept of creating umPODS started to develop in Silent Wave, the first of the trilogy, Silent Trek. Bits of the idea crept into Silent Rising, and more into Silent Landing when the protagonist of the trilogy and his cohorts land on a primeval planet and start building their compound. Of course in science fiction there are wonderful things like force fields, and in Silent Rising, the introduction of Waser which turns out to be both an amazing tool and an extremely lethal weapon. With umPODS we don’t yet have forcefields or the amazing Waser tool. Thankfully we also don’t have the destructive weapon. Fortunately, writing the trilogy gave me more than a decade to formulate ideas on how best to approach building unishell modules and the idea to spray cast with robots.

There is always a great advantage in fiction in that the stage can be set to forward any plot or idea that you can imagine. Traveling to a primeval planet to start from scratch has many advantages over starting anew on Earth. But the reality is that we live on Earth, and Earth’s ecosystem is deteriorating. On Earth, we expect those responsible to correct the problem, and of course government is our way to strong-arm perpetrators into action. Sadly, government is in bed with the enemy, and of course we depend upon government and big business to make our life easy.
