New demands: It’s easy enough to envision tables, shelving, desks, cabinetry, filing cabinets, and other such furnishings that are fireproof, simply because they can be made from metal, stone, glass, or other non-flammable materials. While there will be challenges to manufacture fireproof products such as cushions, mattresses, pillows, blankets, and other flammable items, it won’t be impossible to access reasonable risk in furnishing fireproof structures. (See: Fireproof Structures, September 26, 2009). Setting the standards for longevity, durability, and safety that will insure that products are suitable for umPODS to maintain insurance proof status and remain affordable will be the challenge. Developing a self-imposed system that doesn’t require governmental intervention will require informed and educated consumers that are willing to question the certification of products.
Innovation and variety are always factors in what people look for when furnishing homes or businesses. Often the best solutions are ignored because people are seeking a unique identity. In autonomous sustainable communities, many items will be manufactured within those communities, and thus obtaining a unique identity with customization will be much more common. Keeping custom products affordable will require advanced technologies and robotics.
